2010 Family Assistance Foundation Conference

The Power of Relationships in Long-term Recovery from Trauma

This one-day conference will focus on the crucial role that others play in the emotional and psychological recovery of primary and family survivors.

BMS Global
A Reception will be held on 27 October in honor of those survivors who take time to share their experiences with us so that future responses can be improved. The reception will be held at the Museum of London from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The reception is sponsored by BMS Global and is open to all registered participants.

  • October 31, 2001 Singapore Airlines, Flight 6, Taipei, Taiwan - Second Officer, Cyrano Latif, will discuss the importance of his wife, children, and other support systems in his survival
  • August 27, 2006 Comair 5191, Lexington, KY - Family Survivors Mary Jo Chanders and Thomas Ryan of Ireland, describe the importance of sibling support in loss of brother Michael Noel Ryan
  • April 2010, Polish Air Crash - Family Survivor, Marta Kochanowski - Marta lost her father, Dr. Janusz Kochanowski, the former Polish Human Rights Defender. Marta will discuss the importance families uniting to ensure a thorough investigation in the healing and recovery of those left behind.

Other speakers discuss processes and procedures vital to survivors in their reconnection with loved-ones and creating new life beyond the losses
  • Ken Jenkins, Director of Emergency Services, BMS Global, LLC - Formerly Manager of American Airlines Care Program, Ken responded to 8 fatal accidents and led the family assistance response for the September 11, 2001 for both American Airlines flights.
  • Lucy Easthope, LLB, Msc, MEPS, Tutor in Mass Fatalities and Pandemics, University of Bath, Premier Researcher on loss and personal property - "The meaning of 'things': The return of personal belongings
  • Sue Ackerman, Embassy Liaison - Rowland Brothers International - Repatriation of Remains in the International Arena.
